As a mother, I can’t help but hear Generation Z and immediately think World War Z or the Zombie Apocalypse. Maybe, like every stereotyped aging person from past generations, I’m also frightened by children today — their fashion sense, their technological influence or their absolute disregard for privacy.

… or, That One Time Word Didn’t Make Me Want to Walk Off the Job and Sell Used Tires for a Living.

There are a handful of phrases that make designers want to tuck their tails between their legs and run home to mommy: “Let’s fill up this white space to take advantage of the entire spread.” Or, “Can we make this pop more?” And, perhaps the king of them all, “Can you give me this layout in a Word document so I can make edits myself?”

Remember the childhood game that brought us laughter and hours of chasing, tracking and hiding? Hide and Seek was fun because everyone was eventually found or could at least jump out when you were tired of hiding. Now think how different this concept is received when you apply it to social media content. At the current height of the digital age, content is often hidden among the masses and knowing that it may never be found (let’s face it, consumers generally don’t seek out branded content) can be a little disheartening.

Success in the kitchen is directly related to the cook’s ability to read and prepare a brilliant recipe. One wrong ingredient, incorrect measurement or miscalculation and you hit the FAIL button and, in turn, probably post a humorous picture of your disaster on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest.

The same goes with media planning. It’s all in the mix.
